An Akha traditional ceremonial headdress of black Cotton, decorated, at the front, with lines of Silvered Metal domed beads, Silvered Metal large round hollow beads, dark red Wool pompom,. Silvered Metal coins. and lines of multicoloured small Glass beads. Northern Thailand. Suspended from the headdress is a long black Cotton band, decorated with cream Cowrie Shells, coins, and Silvered Metal round hollow beads. Around the sides of the headdress is a long fringe of white, red, turquoise and yellow lines of small Glass beads. At the top of the headdress is a band of dark red Wool pompoms beneath an Aluminium patterned band. At the back of the headdress is a patterned Aluminium panel, decorated on each side with a red feathered and multicoloured Wool pendant. The inner diameter of the headdress is 8 inches and the height is 9 inches. The drop length of the band and fringe, at the base of the headdress, is 10 inches.
