The writing inscribed on the pendant is Tamashek, and the form is prescribed by the Maribou, (a tribal elder), who makes up the grid pattern, in a combination of Tamashek letters and numbers, to confer protection on the receiver of the pendant. The pendant is 3.9 inches in width, 7 inches in length, and 0.3 inches in depth. The necklace and pendant have a drop length of 16 inches, and the cord can be lengthened or shortened.
